I'm not sure I like this. I don't think it adequately explains God, Jesus sin and us. It would be difficult to do so in a 3 minute skit, granted... I like the way in which it reminded me that I'm constantly struggling with sin... But it portrayed the sinner fighting their way back to God and making it. Ok I know it's just a skit but... Well I have seen skits performed and liked them. But I don't like this one. I think there are too many things wrong with it.
Bigger question: can any illustration ever fully illustrate the gospel in it's entirety?
ReplyDeleteHow about the Trinity? :)
Actually, I thought a good point of the skit is that it actually shows our inability to fight sin. No matter how hard we try, we cannot make it back to God until He comes and dies in our place to defeat sin & death.
This angle of the gospel I thought was captured well, along with the emphasis on relationship: we start in perfect relationship with God, the creator. Sin tempts us away in futile idolatry. God defeats sin to bring us back into that relationship.
That said, there's obviously lots of stuff which isn't expressed in the skit - eg. judgement. And in one sense the helpless God watching isn't right. But the flipside is that the relational turning-away-from-God-to-sin gets stressed.
